Architecture I ADOLF LOOS: DIY competition with Porigami

Become a creator and build one of the famous Loos’s villas based on the 3D pattern and add your own artistic elements. Within the competition organized by the Czech centres, you can create one of the Loos’s villas and at the same time, win an original product with Czech design! The competition lays in the most original creation of 3D card of Müller or Winternitz villa prepared by Tereza Hradilkova / Porigami.cz. According to your fantasy, you can add your own pattern on facade, the residents of the house or anything else. Joint he Czech centre in this competition as a part of the Adolf Loos / Pioneer of Modern Living series.

I don’t like people calling me „architect“.

Simply „Adolf Loos“ is my name.  – Adolf Loos.

 

 Adolf Loos (1870-1933) is one of the most influential European architects. He studied in Liberec, Dresden and 3 years he spent in the USA where he got influenced by the innovative effectiveness of American industrial buildings. Subsequently, he lived in Vienna where he wrote many essays. Adolf Loos is the author of the unique principle of spatial arrangement of interior, the so called Raumplan, which he used while realization of Müller and Winternitz villa in Prague. In Vienna he designed the department store Goldmann & Salatsch na Michaelerplatz, Café Museum or American bar Kärntner. 

 



 

All you need is:

a printer

A4 papers (weight 120-160): 2 sheets of A4 for 1 postcard 

a craft knife / scissors

a pad ruler or precise hand

a blunt knife

a C5 envelope

Then you can just download the prepared pattern and follow the instructional video of Villa Müller or Villa Winternitz. Both kids and adults can join us!

On 19.10.2020 we will publish on the Facebook page ADOLF LOOS / PIONEER OF MODERN LIVING the best creations and the winners will get a product with Czech design.

 

About Tereza Hradilkova

Tereza Hradilková connected her hobbies – architecture, which she studied, and work with paper under the brand of Porigami.cz. The author started to experiment with paper while her stay in Japan during the years 2007-2008. Later in Hong Kong she worked in international architectonic studio but later, she decided to work with paper full-time after she came back to Prague. Her 3D invitation cards, PF and other paper installations approach wide scale of customers who appreciate her original esthetics. Recently she has been interested in DIY for kids.

Competition Timeline

  • Competition opens on 7th September 2020
  • Entries can be submitted between 8th September and 7th October 2020
  • Competition deadline is 7th October 2020 at midnight
  • Assessment of entries by jury: 8th October 2020
  • Five best designs selected by the jury will be published on 9th October 2020
  • Fans can vote by liking their favourite design between 9th and 17th October 2020
  • Three lucky winners will be announced on the Facebook page Adolf Loos/ Pioneer of Modern Living on 19th October 2020 at 11am (CET)

 

Terms and Conditions

  1. Czech Centres, residing at Vaclavske namesti 816/49, 110 00, Prague 1, Czech Republic, are the organiser of the competition.  Czech Tourism, residing at Vinohradska 46, 120 41, Prague 2, Czech Republic, is a co-organiser of the competition.
  2. The competition runs between 7th September 2020 and 19th October 2020.
  3. Prizes for the winners will be provided by external parties. Deadline for entries is 7th October 2020 by midnight.
  4. Contestants can choose one of two card templates for their entries – the Villa Muller or the Winternitz Villa; they can also send both of the two designs, meaning that one contestant can enter with two designs of two different 3D cards. Each contestant can send a maximum of three photographs for each design.
  5. The competition is open for all contestants who send a photograph of their design of the 3D card created by Porigami. All contestants need to send the photograph/s of their design/s to loos@czech.cz whilst the competition is open for entries.
  6. Persons under the age of 18 years can enter the competition only via their parent/ guardian.
  7. Each contestant or their guardian must provide the following details when emailing the photograph of their design for competition entry: name, email address, postal address to which a prize can be sent in case of winning. By providing these details, contestants agree that the information can be used for the purpose of the competition.
  8. The Czech Centres jury will select five best designs of all submitted 3D cards based on the following criteria: artistic execution, adaptation of the theme and an overall impression. Final three winners will be decided by the general public based on the amount of ‘Likes’ each of the five designs receive on the Facebook page Adolf Loos / Pioneer of Modern Living. The three winners will receive prizes of their choice from the offered selection. Prizes will be posted to the winners by the Czech Centres. The winners will be announced on the Facebook page Adolf Loos / Pioneer of Modern Living and on the Czech Centres and Czech Tourism Facebook pages.
  9. By emailing their entries for the competition, the contestants - as authors of their designs - agree to give exclusive rights to the Czech Centres and Czech Tourism to use those designs by all means without any timescale, territorial or quantity limitations. Czech Centres and Czech Tourism have the right to reproduce and spread the design and make copies. Authors of entry photographs agree to their designs being published on Facebook. Czech Centres and Czech Tourism have the right to communicate with the public via their Facebook pages and their websites, including Facebook pages and websites of their branches abroad, as well as via the Facebook page Adolf Loos / Pioneer of Modern Living and Facebook page Visit Czech Republic. 
  10. These rights are provided by contestants free of charge. In case a contestant uses a design created by another person/s, the contestant has full responsibility to ensure that the person/s have given their agreement to the use of their designs in the scale described above.
  11. Czech Centres reserve the right to change the Terms and Conditions of the    completion at any time and to cancel the competition without providing a reason or any compensation; however in such case Czech Centres are obliged to return all competition designs to the contestants and they cease the right to use them as stated in article 8 of The Terms and Conditions. Czech Centres reserve the right to refuse all competition entries.
  12. By entering their design in the competition, the contestant agrees to the Terms and Conditions of the competition and agrees to abide by them.
  13. Contestants are not entitled to any financial compensation in relation to their competition entry.
